Assessment & Qualification
- When a student enrolls in Rochester School District and is identified as being a second language learner, they are given the state multilingual assessment to determine whether they qualify for English Learners (EL) services.
- Once they qualify for services, every multilingual student is required to be assessed annually with the WIDA to track their growth in English proficiency.
- There are 6 levels of proficiency: Entering (Level 1), Beginning (Level 2), Developing (Level 3), Expanding (Level 4), Bridging (Level 5), and Reaching (Level 6).
- Once students achieve the Bridging level , they are exited from the EL program. Students who have exited the program are monitored for four additional years to ensure continued academic success.
