How to help my student

How can I help my student?

Read and communicate with your child at home in their native language. Students who are fluent in their home language learn a second language more easily.

Take your child on outings within your community and talk with them about their experiences.

Talk positively about school and show an interest in what they are
learning.

Set up a time and place for homework in your home. If you are unable to help your student with their homework, find someone who can or inquire about after school homework support options such as ROOF, Pioneer/Explorer Academy Homework Club, etc.

Attend school activities such as Parent-Teacher conferences, Open House, music programs, athletics, etc.

If needed, request a translator for school conferences so you can communicate clearly with your student’s teacher.

For parents of high school students, become familiar with graduation requirements and help your student track their progress towards graduation.
